Windows can (PowerPoint can not) work properly with an .avi file

Taking the hint from Microsoft I saved the movie

  • in AVI format
  • using the Cinepak codec
  • with no audio compression

Cinepak, 784 x 576, Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Mono, 22.050 kHz

On Windows XP:

  • the .avi movie plays (in Windows Media Player)
  • the .ppt PowerPoint file (which links to the same movie) reports an error
  • a PowerPoint package (recommended) suffers the same error.

Jumping through hoops, instructions that don’t work, the usual.

I shouldn’t trust PowerPoint.

I recommend a DVD comprising the separate elements of your presentation.

Don’t rely on PowerPoint as a ‘container’.

Graham
